What are strengths? They are more than just interests or passions—both of which can change as you grow. Strengths are the activities you engage in that give you energy. When you do them, you feel good, motivated and engaged. When learners discover which activities allow them to feel this energetic boost, they recognize where they can make a meaningful contribution to a project, a relationship or a problem. At the Delta School, we begin the educational journey by illuminating each student’s strengths using a Strengths Illumination tool developed by Head of School, Jenifer Fox. In the Upper School, students build an educational genome based on their individual strengths.
“In order to activate strengths, students must engage in a wide variety of different types of activities across a wide spectrum of learning disciplines. When young people discover where they can make their most meaningful contribution they will discover jobs that they love and relationships where they feel adequate and able to give the best of themselves. Everyone has strengths, at The Delta School, we make it a priority to help young people discover what those are.”
